The Year That Changed Everything…

A reflection from COFX

If you asked me to summarize this year in one sentence, I honestly don’t think I could.

It wasn’t just a photography year.
It wasn’t just a business year.
It was a “life” year.

And somewhere in the middle of weddings, newborn cries, late-night edits, road trips, sourdough starters, and quiet mornings drinking coffee before everyone woke up… COFX kept growing right alongside us.

We Didn’t Set Out To Build A Brand

We Just Wanted To Tell Stories

When Ezra and I first started COFX, we weren’t chasing numbers or algorithms or bookings stacked a year in advance.

We just wanted to document people honestly.

Real marriages.
Real families.
Real beginnings.

Somewhere along the way, this little husband-and-wife dream turned into something bigger than we ever imagined.

This year especially reminded us that photography isn’t just about pretty photos.

It’s about being invited into someones life…

We stood beside couples seconds before vows.
We watched parents see their babies for the first time.
We documented families who trusted us year after year — growing right in front of our cameras.

And every single time someone says, “We couldn’t imagine anyone else capturing this,” it still stops me in my tracks.

Because we never take that lightly.

The Events Felt Larger Than Life

This year took us into rooms that honestly felt surreal.

We photographed fantasy balls filled with costumes, storytelling, magic, and artistry.
We returned to events like the Starfall Ball and the Dragon Gauntlet — watching creative communities grow stronger every time we walked through those doors.

Then came the Celestial Summit at the Amway Grand.

Over 2,400 images captured in one night.

Lights, performances, movement, emotion, chaos, beauty — everything unfolding in real time while Ezra navigated portraits, storytelling, and moments you can’t recreate twice.

There’s something incredibly humbling about documenting experiences people will talk about for years.

We weren’t just photographers there.

We were witnesses.

And Then… Our World Quietly Changed

In the middle of all of it — we had a baby.

Earlier than expected.
Faster than planned.
More emotional than I could have prepared for.

Life doesn’t pause for business timelines.

Editing galleries while rocking a newborn.
Answering emails between feedings.
Watching our daughter become a big sister overnight.

Motherhood reshaped everything.

It slowed me down in the best possible way.

For the first time in years, I wasn’t thinking about growth strategies or marketing plans.

I was thinking about time.

How quickly it moves.
How sacred ordinary moments really are.
How photographs become anchors to seasons we can never return to.

And suddenly, the work we do felt even heavier with meaning.

Because now I understand even deeper what people are trying to hold onto when they book us.

They aren’t buying photos.

They’re trying to stop time — just for a second.

The Quiet Work Behind The Scenes

What people don’t see is that this year also looked like:

  • phones completely maxed out with over 140,000 photos

  • hard drives stacked with your memories

  • late nights rebuilding workflows

  • learning new creative directions

  • wondering if we were doing enough

  • hoping we were still growing in the right direction

There were moments I felt quiet online.

Moments I worried we disappeared a little.

But truthfully — we were living.

Learning.
Parenting.
Creating.
Rebuilding inspiration.

And now it feels like we’re stepping back into this space with clearer intention than ever before.

What COFX Has Really Become

COFX has never just been photography.

It’s storytelling.
It’s creativity.
It’s slow mornings baking bread with our kids.
It’s road trips to weddings across Michigan.
It’s documenting art, families, love stories, and fleeting seasons.

We’ve realized something important this year:

The people drawn to our work are makers.

People who build homes.
People who create traditions.
People who romanticize their lives a little bit.

And honestly?

Those are our people.

Why We Keep Doing This

There’s a moment at almost every wedding.

Usually right after sunset.

The timeline relaxes.
The nerves fade.
Everyone realizes — this day is actually happening.

I always look around and think:

This is why.

Not for recognition.
Not for followers.
Not even for business success.

But because someday these photos will matter more than anyone realizes right now.

They will outlive trends.
They will outlive algorithms.
They will become heirlooms.

And being trusted with that is the greatest privilege of our lives.

Looking Forward

We’re entering this next season with new energy.

More storytelling.
More connection.
More presence.
More intention behind everything we share.

More weddings.
More families.
More tiny everyday moments that deserve to be remembered.

And honestly?

We feel incredibly lucky.

Lucky to do this together.
Lucky to raise our babies while building something meaningful.
Lucky that you keep choosing us again and again.

If you’ve ever stepped in front of our camera, sent us a message, recommended us to a friend, or trusted us with your story…

Thank you.

You are the reason COFX exists.

Here’s to another year of memory-making.
