From Inspiration to Mentorship: Our Journey with the Pinckards

Double Exposure Inspiration
On the left: a stunning example from the Pinckards. On the right: our own take, inspired by their artistry. Both show how storytelling can come to life in a single frame.

When we first discovered Dan and Laura Pinckard, we were in the early days of building COFX. Ezra was learning the magic of double exposure photography, and we were both falling in love with the idea of storytelling through images, not just capturing moments, but preserving emotion. Their work stopped us in our tracks. It was raw, cinematic, and deeply human.

Dan and Laura aren’t just photo + video pros, they’re destination wedding photographers, elopement planners, and creative storytellers who specialize in making intimate celebrations feel unforgettable. As a husband/wife team ourselves, we immediately felt connected to their approach and inspired by the way they’ve built their business with intention and soul.

Now, years later, we’re absolutely thrilled to share that we’ve officially started a mentorship with the Pinckards. It’s something we’ve dreamed of for a long time and it feels like such a full-circle moment for COFX.

More Double Exposure Magic
Left: The Pinckards’ dreamy, layered storytelling. Right: Our interpretation capturing emotion and atmosphere in one blended frame. Same technique, different voice — and we’re learning more every day.

What This Means for COFX (and Our Clients)

Although the Pinckards are based in New York and travel the world documenting destination elopements, their work deeply influences how we tell stories here in Northern Michigan. We're taking what we learn from them whether it’s creative techniques, client experience, or intentional planning and bringing that knowledge home.

Because even though we live in a small town, we believe the experience we offer should feel just as elevated, just as heartfelt, and just as unforgettable as any destination wedding. We’re proud to serve the couples, families, and love stories right here in Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Charlevoix, and beyond and now, we’re doing it with fresh eyes and creative fire.

We’ll be sharing some behind-the-scenes from our mentorship, more of our double exposure work, and ideas for planning intentional weddings and elopements in Northern Michigan that feel true to you.

For the Dreamers, the Storytellers, and the Locals Who Love Big

Whether you’re getting married on the shores of Lake Michigan or tucked away in the woods up north, your story deserves to be told with care.

We’re so excited to bring this new season of growth and inspiration to our clients, our community, and the couples who trust us with their most meaningful moments.
